Narrative As Books Forgotten Bones (Dead Remaining #1)
An unlikely pair teams up to investigate a brutal murder in a haunting thriller that walks the line between reality and impossibility. When small-town police officers discover the grave of a young boy, they're quick to pin the crime on a convicted felon who lives nearby. But when it comes to murder, Officer Susan Marlan never trusts a simple explanation, so she's just getting started.
Meanwhile, college professor Eric Evans hallucinates a young boy in overalls: a symptom of his schizophrenia - or so he thinks. But when more bodies turn up, Eric has more visions, and they mirror details of the murder case. As the investigation continues, the police stick with their original conclusion, but Susan's instincts tell her something is off. The higher-ups keep stonewalling her, and the FBI's closing in.
Desperate for answers, Susan goes rogue and turns to Eric for help. Together they take an unorthodox approach to the case as the evidence keeps getting stranger. With Eric's hallucinations intensifying and the body count rising, can the pair separate truth from illusion long enough to catch a monster?

I was offered an advance copy in exchange for a review.Forgotten Bones was a genuinely good read! The story centers around Eric and Susan, a college professor and Police Officer respectively, and an ongoing child murderer case in the small town of Perrick, CA. The book has great pacing, making it an easy and enjoyable read. I loved how it went back and forth between the two main characters, giving you just the right amount of information about them during their parts and not making you feelSkipping over the prologue, which I thought was too long and actually unnecessary since the characters dont feature again, Police Officer Susan Marlan responds to a road traffic accident where the decades old remains of a childs body is discovered buried next to a telephone pole that had been knocked down. A local pedophile recently released from prison is deemed responsible for the childs death although, after talking to the medical examiner and interviewing his mother, Susan isnt completely
I love a good crime fiction mixed with the paranormal and was super curious to see how Vivian Barzs Forgotten Bones would play out. As its the first in a series, I was eager for a new series that would have me hooked.Ill be honest and say I was unsure at first. I wasnt sucked in and I did consider putting this one aside. It did not grip me in the way Id expected, giving us more about the lives of the characters than about the crime. Although I wasnt sucked in as deep as I would have liked, I was
2.5 stars rounded up. Lots of potential with this story but some things were pretty obvious early on. I don't think the FBI would be so oblivious as the book implies. It was very hard to be vested in the lead character as she seemed pretty oblivious at times, undeveloped and apparently doesn't touch base with anyone outside of her boss.
4.5 ★ Forgotten Bones is an eerie, entertaining, fast-paced murder mystery!Eric Evans, a newly divorced, community college professor finds and works on restoring an old foul-smelling steamer trunk he bought from a used shop. He soon begins seeing ghostly visions, although he thinks hes hallucinating due to his schizophrenia. Officer Susan Marlon, first on the scene of a car accident, is startled by whats found buried nearby. She begins investigating the discovered remains of a small child found
Review to come.
Buy the book or borrow it from Amazon KU. Oh man... what a great debut! The book starts with a bang, but then tapers out a bit with boring facts. However, it more than makes up for it at about half way through and doesnt stop until the book is over. There is a mild creep factor with the ghosts of dead children. For those of you with this kind of trigger, dont worry, this book tells you how the kids meet there end (because its being investigated), but it doesn't dwell on it or give you the
